Tika Ayu, Jakarta – Pollster Indikator Politik Indonesia said the public urges President Joko Widodo or Jokowi not to side with one particular presidential candidate in the 2024 general elections.

The pollster's executive director Burhanuddin Muhtadi said a survey found that only about 40 percent of people agree that the President could support a specific nominee.

"But don't forget that more people claim they are neutral and disagree," Burhanuddin said on Sunday, July 23, 2023, releasing the result of the pollster's latest survey on the national leadership and electoral dynamics ahead of the forthcoming election.

The survey revealed that 26.2 percent of the respondents asked the President to be neutral during the elections. Besides, 19.7 percent of the respondents voiced disagreement over the President's supporting a specific candidate, 10.2 percent expressed strong disagreement, and 2.9 percent did not provide an answer.

"This is suggestions for President Jokowi," he said.

The survey also showed the public's assessment regarding the President's support. Burhanuddin said 45.2 percent of the respondents see that the President put more support on a candidate endorsed by PDIP, Ganjar Pranowo.

Although Jokowi and Prabowo seemed to have been close recently, only 29.8 percent of the respondents thought the President would back the Gerindra party patron chief to run in the election. "And only 9.6 percent of the respondents vote for Pak Jokowi to support Anies Baswedan," Burhanuddin added.

The survey was conducted on June 20-24, 2023, by interviewing 1,220 people aged 17 years or those having the right to vote using a multistage random sampling method.

Indikator Politik Indonesia performed quality control on 20 percent of respondents, claiming that the confidence level reached 95 percent with a margin of error of around 2.9 percent.
