Jakarta – Indonesia's National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander Admiral Yudo Margono underscored the need for personnel to create and share positive contents in cyberspace.

"As military personnel, it is our duty to consistently curb negative contents. We have to flood the cyberspace with positive contents, i.e., contents that maintain national integrity," he remarked here on Tuesday.

Margono delivered the statement during an event titled "Governmental Digital Literacy for National Defense Force" that was hosted by the Communication and Informatics Ministry at the military headquarters in Cilangkap.

Issues in cyberspace have grown rampant, and it could compromise the nation's security, he remarked. Margono drew attention to a direct correlation between negative contents spread among people and the rate at which cybercrimes occur.

Hence, the TNI chief expects more TNI personnel to take up digital literacy, so they could contribute to the creation of calming, educative creative contents for the people.

"We must support that government program and contribute in the digital literacy activity. We have to be the unifying force of the nation in cyberspace, and I hope that there will be more military personnel, who become more wise and knowledgeable in terms of cyberspace," he elaborated.

The military chief believes that the event could improve the personnel's capability to utilize digital tech and possess four relevant skills: digital ethics and etiquette, digital culture, digital skills, and cybersecurity.

He stated that after the event, it is expected that there would be no other personnel possessing no digital literacy skills, spreading hoaxes, leaking the state's confidential data, or sharing improper content that contradicts their duty as guardians of the country.

Moreover, once they acquire digital literacy skills, the personnel are expected to partake in maintaining peace amid the risk of chaos in the cyberspace as the 2024 general election draws near, he stated.

"Use our capability to fill the cyberspace with constructive, positive information during the general election proceedings," Margono stressed.
