Antara, Jakarta – The turnover of clothing traders at Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta, is skyrocketing during Ramadan, particularly ahead of Eid al-Fitr. A seller of men's clothing, Al, said his sales turnover before the fasting month was Rp2 million per day, and now he could earn up to Rp12 million per day.
"During Ramadan, my turnover can reach Rp11-12 million on weekdays. There are many more buyers on weekends," said Al at Tanah Abang Market, on Thursday, April 13, as quoted from Antara.
According to him, his shop was highly crowded one week before Ramadan. Sales turnover soared in line with the rising demand for clothing ahead of the Eid holiday. AI explained that he sells jackets, hoodies, bomber jackets, and parachute jackets at prices ranging from Rp150,000-250,000.
A seller of Muslim women's clothing, Bram, also recorded a surge in sales turnover. In normal months, he could earn Rp700,000-1,500,000. "During Ramadan, my sales turnover ranges from Rp1.5-2 million on weekdays. On Saturdays and Sundays, it can be up to Rp3 million," Bram said.
A seller of children's clothing at Southeast Asia's largest textile market, Madin, also said that his sales turnover increased during Ramadan. On weekdays, the turnover reached Rp6 million, but it could be up to Rp10 million on weekends.
The Tanah Abang Market seller said the busiest shopping day is in the second week of Ramadan with the turnover could hit Rp15 million on weekends. "Hopefully, [the shop] will be crowded again because Ramadan is almost over," Madin said.
