Arrijal Rachman, Jakarta – Representative of the volunteers for President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's 2014 and 2019 elections rebuffed joining the movement that promotes an extended presidential term for the current president.

Teguh Indrayana, chairperson of Bulaksumur Gas Poll – a Jokowi volunteer group that mainly consists of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) alumni – says he rejects the discourse of extending the current presidential term.

"We disagree with the movement to extend his presidency to 3 terms," said Indrayana to Tempo on April 5.

According to him, the current constitution blatantly limits the president's term until the election planned in 2024, which serves the end of Joko Widodo's second term. He openly acknowledges that he is actively involved in Jokowi's two presidential terms.

However, Indrayana said that he is aware that there is the option to amend the constitution to change the presidential term limit. He insists that taking this route will certainly be exhausting and spark more pros and cons among members of the public.

"It will spark pros and cons that eventually will cause political disruption," he said.

The volunteer group which was previously known as Blusukan Jokowi has changed to Bulak Sumur Gas Poll and supports the candidacy of Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo for the 2024 presidential election (Pilpres) as they believe the governor can continue Jokowi's legacy.
