Maya Ayu Puspitasari, Jakarta – The General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner has revised the proposed budget for the 2024 General Elections (Pemilu). The KPU had previously suggested the budget at Rp86 trillion and has been rationalized to Rp76.6 trillion as the commission's final proposal.
"There is indeed a significant increase compared to the KPU budget for the 2019 General Election," said KPU commissioner Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi on Wednesday, February 16.
The KPU has prepared technical guidelines for governance of the election, including accountability for the election budget and regional head elections.
Several considerations that became the basis for the calculation, said Pramono, were the addition of the number of voters and the number of polling stations. Voters in 2024 are predicted to increase from 192 million to more than 200 million.
The budget increase also takes into account the addition of the ad hoc agency's honorarium from Rp500,00 to Rp1 million. The cost of the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) is also a factor that needs to be included amidst the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
KPU's previous proposal of Rp86 trillion for the 2024 General Elections drew criticism from the public after it is considered to be too large of an amount compared to the 2019 elections budget that only topk Rp25.59 trillion.
