Egi Adyatama, Graven (Intern), Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated that the government will provide protection and support for the human rights defenders in enforcing human rights (HAM).
"We will provide protection and encourage HAM defenders to continue and fight for it, facilities will be provided too if necessary," said Mahfud during an online seminar entitled 'Enforcing Nation's Commitment to Protect HAM Defenders,' on Thursday, January 27.
The minister also said he is open to cooperating with the public to fight for human rights. However, he asked them to act professionally and abide by the laws, which can be done easily by providing sufficient proof to encourage a trial for an issue.
"When accusing someone of something, whoever it is, must provide proof. Don't accuse people carelessly as it's not fighting for HAM, let's be proportional and professional."
Mahfud also emphasized the government's commitment to human rights and the defenders' protection by ratifying the International Convention Law concerning the protection and forced disappearance of people as their effort to fulfill the responsibilities as stated in the MPR Decree and Law.
The minister also said that several international conventions have been ratified and they will not stop there as the government has reached in creating implementation reports to the UN gradually.
