Kominfo ministry probes alleged personal data leak in Pertamina's subsidiary

Antara, Jakarta – The Communication and Information (Kominfo) Ministry is investigating the alleged leak of personal data belonging to job applicants at Pertamina's subsidiary, PT Pertamina Training and Consulting (PTC).

"The ministry is now following up and tracing the alleged leak of applicants data at PT Pertamina Training & Consulting (PTC), including by formally requesting information from the PTC Board of Directors to obtain clarification," said the ministry spokesman Dedy Permadi in a statement, Thursday, January 13.

The data leak was suspected to occur via a raid forum on Wednesday, January 12. Although the site could no longer be accessed as it had been blocked in Indonesia, it remained accessible in other regions.

The breached data included full names, addresses, places and dates of birth, religion, phone numbers, detailed titles, ID cards, family cards, diplomas, academic transcripts, BPJS cards, CVs, and driver's licenses.

The data was shared by an account named Astarte which recently leaked data on COVID-19 patients allegedly came from the Health Ministry.

The alleged data leak of PT. PTC was the second data leak case in Indonesia in 2022 by far.

The Kominfo Ministry reminded Electronic System Operators (PSE) to carry out their obligations in protecting users' data in accordance with Article 26 (1) of Law No. 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions and its amendments.
