Defara Dhanya, Jakarta – The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in Indonesia continues to rise. Kantar's research shows that 59 percent of Indonesians have tried AI technology at least once in the past few years, much higher compared to the Southeast Asian average.

"Indonesia is categorized as a country with a very high level of AI adoption. Local users not only use AI for entertainment, but also for productivity, learning new things, and advancing their careers," said Ummu Hani, Director of Kantar Indonesia, during a press conference held by Samsung in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

The same study shows differences in the patterns of AI usage across generations. 74 percent of Generation Z utilize AI for creativity, self-expression, content creation, and personal branding. Meanwhile, 80 percent of Millennials and Gen X use AI to support daily productivity and careers, prioritizing practicality and efficiency.

"Each generation has different needs for AI, but their goal is similar, which is to seek efficiency, convenience, and better results," she stated.

On the corporate side, Google Indonesia asserts that AI has already become an integral part of the Android ecosystem, with development emphasizing user data safety and security.

"AI from Google has undergone a fairly long evolution, and now has become part of the daily activities of users in Indonesia," said Danny Galant, Head of Indonesia Android Platform & Ecosystem Partnership at Google on the same occasion. He explained that Android serves as the primary interface linking AI technology, such as Gemini, directly to users while still safeguarding user data.

Google protects user access to AI through a multi-layered security system. Data is stored anonymously, governed by strict privacy policies, and entirely under user control. Danny claimed that the company's commitment to privacy and data security remains a top priority.

"This is reflected in data showing that 80 percent of Android users feel confident about the anti-malware protection on their devices, ensuring users are safe from various cyber threats," stated Danny.

In addition to Google, Samsung Electronics Indonesia also notes the high utilization of AI in their devices. Samsung's MX Product Marketing Senior Manager, Ilham Indrawan, stated that 87 percent of Fold 7 users actively use the Galaxy AI and Mini AI features in their daily activities.

"Smartphones are now not just a communication tool, but also support creativity and productivity," said Ilham. Samsung's internal data shows an increase from the previous generation, Fold 6, which recorded 85.5 percent active users of Galaxy AI, to 87 percent on the Fold 7.

Samsung also emphasizes that the direction of their product development now focuses on cross-device AI integration. Galaxy AI is not only available in premium series like Fold, but is also starting to be expanded to other series through software updates and on-device AI-based features.
