M Julnis Firmansyah, Jakarta – The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) chairman of Commission D Ida Maheasy said the capital city currently only has 9.2 percent of green open space or RTH. She opined that it is impossible for the city government to meet the target of 30 percent green spaces.

"Jakarta's green zone [is targeted at] 30 percent, it's almost impossible. Because the current green zone belonging to the regional government is only around 9.2 percent," Ida said on Tuesday, November 16.

Ida explained that the city government is striving to free up a number of green zone lands occupied by residents. The amount of funds proposed for the program is quite large totaling Rp1.7 trillion.

However, Ida said the proposed budget could not be approved. In the 2022 Regional Budget, the amount of funds for the acquisition of green land is only at Rp800 billion.

Other than land acquisition, Ida said the regional government is conducting an assessment with the neighboring regions to meet the target.

"It's still possible to spare 30 percent green spaces in Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi because they have vast lands," Ida argued.

The green space development plan in the capital's neighboring regions was conveyed by the Agrarian and Spatial Planning Minister Sofyan A. Djalil during the commemoration event of the National Agrarian and Spatial Planning day on Friday last week.

Sofyan said the plan is part of the joint collaboration to save the Puncak area of Bogor. "We will change the concept of green open space as it is impossible to add the remaining 21 percent of green space in Jakarta," the minister said.
