Sultan Abdurrahman, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has claimed that public transportation in Jakarta outperforms several neighboring capitals, citing a survey conducted by the London-based media and business group, Time Out.
According to Pramono, Jakarta ranks 17th out of 50 cities surveyed globally, making it second only to Singapore in Southeast Asia. "So we are ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Bangkok, and others," he said in a written statement on Monday, September 8, 2025.
The PDIP politician expressed satisfaction with the results and emphasized the city's ambition to improve further. "Hopefully, together, we can ensure Jakarta not only maintains this ranking but surpasses it in the future," he added.
Time Out published the survey results on March 20, 2025, collecting feedback from 18,500 public transport users across more than 50 cities worldwide. Respondents assessed the quality of service in their respective cities.
Hong Kong topped the global ranking, followed by Shanghai and Beijing. Singapore was the highest-ranking Southeast Asian city at 12th, with Jakarta at 17th, above Warsaw, Poland, and below Oslo, Norway.
Pramono also noted that public transportation in Jakarta has returned to normal following protests at the end of August, which had caused significant damage. Seven Transjakarta stops were burned during the demonstrations, with another 16 damaged due to vandalism.
Welfizon Yuza, President Director of PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta), confirmed that all stations are now fully operational.
"On the last working day of last week, Transjakarta served 1.3 million passengers, showing that Jakarta's mobility and economy have fully recovered," he said on Monday, September 8, 2025.
