Dede Leni Mardianti, Jakarta – Head of the Nusantara Capital City Authority (IKN) Basuki Hadimuljono stated that Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka will soon begin working in IKN. He conveyed the plan during a meeting with the House of Representatives' Commission II at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday, March 30, 2026.

The former Minister of Public Works and People's Housing mentioned that Gibran has made several preparations to start working at IKN. He noted that around 50 Vice President's staff have been assigned to prepare for Gibran's relocation.

"I think he will be working at IKN because I have assigned 50 staff there for the preparations," Basuki responded to a question from the Chair of House Commission II, Muhammad Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, regarding the certainty of the planned relocation of the eldest son of former President Joko Widodo's office.

Basuki has not disclosed Gibran's start date at IKN. He only confirmed that it is unlikely Gibran will be working in Jakarta this year. "Insha Allah (this year)," Basuki said.

After the meeting, Basuki reaffirmed that Gibran's relocation agenda to IKN is still in the planning stage and requires extensive preparation. Additionally, Basuki mentioned that the Vice President's Office in IKN has been completed. He hopes that Gibran will be able to occupy the building soon.

"My house is there now, so I hope that happens, and he indeed works there," he said.

Previously, during the meeting, Commission II member from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle faction, Deddy Sitorus, asked Gibran and the ministers to begin working at IKN. Deddy believed this was necessary to prevent the buildings in IKN from deteriorating due to prolonged neglect.

He also suggested that several ministries send officials to work at IKN on a rotating basis. "I have been asking for this for a long time. Vice President, Minister of Forestry, Minister of Villages, Minister of Transmigration, should stay there. It's the country's money. Don't go overboard in Jakarta," Deddy said.
