Budiarti Utami Putri, Jakarta – Gerindra Party deputy chairperson Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said chief patron Prabowo Subianto had instructed the party to endorse Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the eldest son of President Jokowi, in the 2020 Solo Mayoral Election."We have ordered to support [Gibran]," said Dasco at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, February 11.

Dasco stopped short of detailing the reason behind the support, mentioning with a smile that his party has been a government coalition. "Perhaps [because we are] a coalition party," he said shortly.

He added that Gerindra was not waiting for the decision of the PDIP party in light of the candidacy of Gibran, but rather running a selection process of candidates for the upcoming regional election starting from its party branch of Solo.

According to Dasco, Gibran is indeed a strong potential candidate to be supported in the 2020 Solo election. "Based on the internal information so far, Gibran is a strong candidate," he said.

On Monday, February 10, Gibran had undergone a fit and proper test held by the PDIP central executive board. Other than the Jokowi's son, Solo Deputy Mayor Achmad Purnomo and Solo Legislative Council (DPRD) Speaker Teguh Prakosa, who are backed by Solo PDIP, also joined the test prior to the Solo election.
