Farouk Arnaz, Jakarta – A middle-ranking police officer has been demoted by the order of the National Police Chief Idham Azis, who was reportedly angered by the subordinate natting away during an official briefing.
Police Commissioner Asep Darmawan, the chief of the Kampar District Police in Riau, has been transferred to a clerical job at the National Police headquarters in Jakarta after he was reprimanded for chattering away during a briefing by Idham last week.
"That's true," National Police's human resources head Insp. Gen. Eko Indra Heri replied when asked about the incident on Monday.
"Further actions must await results from an internal investigation, but he [Asep] has been transferred to the headquarters for the time being," he said.
Asep's post as Kampar police chief has been filled by Police Commissioner Mohammad Kholid. Asep, a 1998 graduate of the National Police Academy, has been the Kampar police chief for less than two months.
Police sources told the Jakarta Globe that Idham was so angry at Asep that he ordered his subordinate removed from his current post "before the first cry of the cock."
