Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – Indonesian police unveiled and raided the operational location of 75 online gambling sites managed by 321 foreign nationals at Hayam Wuruk Tower Plaza, West Jakarta.

The general crime director at the police's Criminal Investigation Unit, Brigadier General Wira Satya Triputra, said the foreigners were caught in a sting operation. "[The online gambling operation] was run in a structured manner, utilizing electronic facilities and cross-border operational patterns," said Wira at the site of the raid on Saturday, May 9, 2026.

Wira mentioned that the foreign nationals came from various Asian countries – with the majority, 228, from Vietnam, while the rest from China (57), Laos (11), Myanmar (13), Malaysia (3), Thailand (5), and Cambodia (3).

The police seized several pieces of evidence, including safes, passports, cell phones, laptops, computers, and various banknotes totaling around Rp1.9 billion.

The police then traced the IP addresses of the communication networks, with the online gambling servers believed to be located overseas.

The online gambling operators were active on the 20th and 21st floors of the building, and some even resided in the vicinity of the Hayam Wuruk Tower Plaza. "Some of them came here specifically to work as online gambling [operators]," said Wira.

The online gambling operation had been running for about two months, according to the police. A hotel and an apartment complex can be seen located next to the office, a relatively secluded establishment with a construction site at the front.

The police are still tracing the sponsors of these online gambling operators. According to Wira, the 321 individuals arrested today fulfilled roles such as operators, telemarketers, finance personnel, and coordinators.

Wira claimed foreign nationals made up the majority of the online gambling operation, based on examination of the evidence obtained from the telemarketing of these gambling sites.

The hundreds of foreigners are charged under Article 426 and/or Article 607 in conjunction with Article 20 and/or Article 21 of Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code and Law Number 1 of 2026 concerning criminal adjustments.

As of Saturday evening, 275 foreign nationals had been designated as suspects.

The Secretary of the National Central Bureau of Interpol Indonesia, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, said authorities would ensure legal proceedings in Indonesia for the suspects. Extradition, he said, would regard Indonesia as a safe haven for transnational crime. "Of course, we do not want the perpetrators to be able to return to their homeland without punishment," said Untung.
