Andita Rahma, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto appealed to all university students to stop the demonstration which he considered a waste of energy.
Besides, he said the government has delayed the ratification of five draft bills since they are, especially President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, truly listening to people's aspirations.
"So I think [the protest is] no longer relevant because of the delay. The demonstrations are no longer important," said the former military commander in his office, Central Jakarta, today, September 24.
The House of Representatives (DPR) period of 2014-2019 was drafting several revisions of laws before the end of their office term which falls on October 1. Out of 8 draft bills canvassed by the DPR and the government, President Jokowi only agreed to ratify three draft bills, including on KPK and pesantren (religious education).
Meanwhile, the ratification of the remaining five draft bills is agreed to be delayed until further discussions by DPR period of 2019-2024.
The minister continued to say that large-scale demonstrations have caused public worries and disrupted public order. "It will be better to have dialogues," he remarked.
