Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – The Democrat Party announced that it will decide its future and position within Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's administration after the 40-days commemoration of Ani Yudhoyono's passing.
"Around July 10 we will announce what direction the party will take and also the coalition," said Democrat Party secretary-general Hinca Panjaitan in Jakarta yesterday.
The meeting between Democrat's executive member and party chairman's son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and President Jokowi is widely considered to be a sign that Democrat Party is ready to jump ship to the pro-government coalition.
However, accepting them as a new member of the Jokowi party coalition might still be hampered by political party chairpersons, both in Democrat with Susilo "SBY" Bambang Yudhoyono and PDIP with Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri.
Either of the two figures might not accept Democrat joining the government party coalition.
It is widely known that SBY's relationship with Megawati has been less than perfect since 2004 when SBY resigned from the position as Coordinating Minister of Politics and Security to compete with Megawati in the following presidential election.
However, PDIP's secretary, Bambang Wuryanto said that Megawati holds no grudge against SBY.
