Jakarta – Every member of the Cilincing and Koja district election committees (PPK) in North Jakarta have been named suspects of vote rigging during the 2019 Jakarta legislative election.
North Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Budhi Herdi said the police's Integrated Law Enforcement Team (Gakkumdu) suspected that all PPK members of the two districts manipulated votes at polling stations during the April 17 election.
"For that reason, Cilincing PPK head Idi Amin and his team and Koja PPK head Alim Sori and his team have been named suspects. A total of 10 suspects have been named," said Budhi on Thursday.
Meanwhile, North Jakarta Gakkumdu head Benny Sabdo said that investigators were investigating the suspects in the election fraud case.
According to Benny, the case began when Gakkumdu received reports from candidates H Sulkarnain of the Democratic Party and M Iqbal Maulana of the Gerindra Party that there had been manipulation of the vote tallies for the city council election in the two districts.
However, when asked about the nature of the manipulation, Benny declined to elaborate.
All members of the Cilincing and Koja PPK teams have been charged under Article 505 of Law No. 7/2017 on general elections and could face a maximum sentence of one year in prison and a fine of Rp 12 million (US$849). (bry)
