Friski Riana, Bandung – Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko, hoped that President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo and Prabowo Subianto could meet anytime soon.
Hopefully, the meeting of the two leaders and top political figures can be held before the end of the presidential election dispute trials at the Constitutional Court (MK).
"Yes, we hope [it can be realized] before trials in MK ended. That's even better, so the situation will be calmer. All Indonesians are tired of this current condition, this is boring," said Moeldoko in Bandung on Thursday, June 20, 2019.
Moeldoko, who also serves as Jokowi – Ma'ruf Amin campaign team deputy head claimed to have approached Prabowo. "Thank God, the approach has been running and there already access for communication, mutual understanding, and so on. In a negotiation process, those are common," Moeldoko added.
He then predicted the meeting will take place soon. "I think it'll be in the near future, the meeting of the two leaders will happen and that's the public's wish."
Currently, trials of the presidential election dispute are ongoing at the Constitutional Court. The final trial is scheduled to be held on June 28, 2019, where the judges will announce their verdict on the appeal filed by Prabowo – Sandiaga team.
Through their legal team, Prabowo – Sandiaga challenged the Election Commission (KPU)'s vote recapitulation result that determines the Jokowi – Ma'ruf pair as the winner of the election with more than 55 percent votes. The opposition accused there was structured, systematic, and massive fraud during the election.
According to Moeldoko, the narration about the vote-rigging had been prepared by the opposition since the beginning, even before the election took place, and so Prabowo – Sandiaga attempted a systematic strategy to lure public opinion about the election fraud.
