Celvin Moniaga Sipahutar, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday reaffirmed the government's commitment to accelerating national industrialization, including plans to expand domestic production of cars, motorcycles, computers, and mobile phones.
Speaking before parliament during a plenary session, Prabowo said industrialization would become one of the government's main priorities to strengthen Indonesia's economic self-reliance.
"We must industrialize. We must produce our own cars, motorcycles, televisions, computers, and mobile phones," Prabowo said.
He said the government would accelerate industrial development through stronger investment and financing support from Danantara Indonesia, the sovereign wealth fund established in 2025.
According to Prabowo, Danantara will play a key role in speeding up national industrial development while optimizing the use of state assets and resources that have not been fully utilized.
The president said Indonesia could no longer rely solely on being a market for foreign-made products and instead must become more self-sufficient in producing technology and manufactured goods domestically.
As part of that strategy, the government is targeting the development of Indonesia's automotive and electronics industries.
To support the initiative, Prabowo said he has gathered national experts to help accelerate the development of strategic industries based on domestic capabilities.
Indonesia's industrialization push will also be reinforced through downstream processing policies aimed at preventing the export of raw natural resources, he said.
"We do not want our natural resources to be exported in raw form. We have already required nickel to be processed domestically, bauxite must also be processed domestically, and later we will develop downstream coal products here as well," Prabowo said.
