Hammam Izzuddin, Jakarta – The Chief of the National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, has issued an apology for the actions of police officers that have wounded public sentiment. He asserted that the police institution will undergo improvements following a series of violations by its members.

"I offer an apology if, in our daily operations, there may have been actions by our members, whether intentional or unintentional, that have hurt the public sense of justice," said Sigit during the breaking of the fast event at the National Police Headquarters on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

Sigit declared that the police will maintain a firm stance against personnel who commit ethical or legal breaches. "We will not hesitate to take decisive action to uphold our beloved institution," he remarked.

According to him, the police force remains open to input, criticism, and institutional evaluation. He requested support from the media to enable the police to fulfill their function of maintaining security and public order effectively.

The police institution has lately faced intense scrutiny following a string of legal violations by its ranks. The former Chief of the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the Bima Kota Police, Adjunct Commissioner Malaungi, and the former Chief of the Bima Kota Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Didik Putra Kuncoro, were implicated in a case involving drug possession and the receipt of funds from a trafficker. Both were dismissed from their posts and named suspects.

Additionally, a member of the Maluku Regional Police Mobile Brigade, Second Brigadier Mesias Siahaya, has been named a suspect in a fatal assault case. Mesias allegedly struck a 14-year-old teenager with a helmet while on duty to crack down on illegal racing.
