Addin Anugrah Siwi, Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has signaled a sweeping rotation of senior officials at the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT), saying a recent reshuffle in North Jakarta is just the beginning of a broader reorganization aimed at restoring public trust amid mounting fiscal pressure.

Speaking on Thursday after inaugurating four new tax officials at the North Jakarta regional tax office, Purbaya said a larger round of personnel changes would take place within the next month, potentially reaching as high as regional office heads.

"This is not the last rotation," Purbaya said. "Within a month, we will carry out a much bigger reshuffle. This is part of a broader restructuring of the tax authority."

The move follows a bribery case at the North Jakarta Medium Tax Office that is currently under investigation by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This rotation is not necessarily about wrongdoing. There are units where work has simply not been done as it should," he said.

The newly appointed officials include Untung Supardi as head of the North Jakarta tax office, Gorga Parlaungan as head of the Medium Tax Office, Hadi Suprayitno as head of the supervision section III, and Andika Arisandi as a junior tax appraiser.

Purbaya warned that senior officials would be held fully accountable for the conduct of their subordinates, dismissing claims of ignorance as unacceptable. "Supervisors are responsible for their teams. There should be no excuse that violations happened without their knowledge," he said, adding that sanctions could range from reassignment to remote regions to dismissal, depending on the severity of the offense.

The restructuring comes as Indonesia faces tightening fiscal conditions. In 2025, state revenue reached Rp 2,756 trillion ($162 billion), or 91.7% of the target, down from Rp 2,850 trillion a year earlier. At the same time, government spending rose to Rp 3,451 trillion, widening fiscal pressure.

For 2026, the government has set an ambitious revenue target of Rp 3,153 trillion, with tax receipts expected to contribute Rp 2,357.7 trillion and customs and excise receipts Rp 336 trillion. Non-tax revenue is projected at Rp 459.2 trillion, while total spending is budgeted at Rp 3,842.7 trillion.

With taxes remaining the backbone of state financing, Purbaya said strengthening the tax authority was non-negotiable. "State spending needs must be sustained. That is only possible if revenues are strong, and revenues depend on public trust," he said.

He added that the newly appointed officials are now on the front line of that effort, dealing directly with taxpayers and businesses. "Your positions are not merely structural roles. They are a trust bestowed by the state," Purbaya said.
