Prisma Ardianto, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto on Sunday convened an unscheduled meeting with several cabinet ministers at his private residence to discuss a range of strategic issues, including the development of Indonesia's semiconductor industry.
Since taking office in October 2024, Prabowo has frequently invited cabinet members to weekend meetings at his home in Bogor, underscoring his hands-on approach to policy coordination.
One of the key agenda items was strengthening Indonesia's automotive and electronics sectors through investment in semiconductor technology development.
"This is aimed at building Indonesia's future chip industry, which will support the automotive, digital, and electronics industries," the Cabinet Secretariat said in a statement.
The meeting also covered efforts to strengthen the textile and garment industries, as well as preparations for the launch of $6 billion worth of downstream industrialization projects scheduled for early February.
In addition, Prabowo and the attending ministers discussed plans for the inauguration of a Pertamina project in Balikpapan, which is set to take place on Monday.
Among those attending the meeting were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, Investment Minister and Danantara Indonesia chief Rosan Roeslani, Agriculture Minister Amran Sulaiman, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.
