Muhammad Aulia Rahman, Jakarta – Indonesia's Attorney General's Office has imposed disciplinary sanctions on 101 prosecutors and 56 non-prosecutorial staff throughout 2025, as authorities step up internal oversight, an official said on Wednesday.
Attorney General's Office spokesperson Anang Supriatna said internal investigations were conducted into 157 personnel, resulting in 44 light sanctions, 44 moderate sanctions, and 69 severe sanctions.
While Anang did not detail the specific penalties imposed, he said serious violations could lead to dishonorable dismissal.
"Going forward, there will be zero tolerance," Anang said. "If criminal acts are found to have been committed by members of the Attorney General's Office, they will be processed immediately in accordance with existing procedures."
Anang warned that even indications of misconduct could have lasting consequences for prosecutors' careers, as the office tightens scrutiny over career progression.
"For those indicated to have engaged in disgraceful conduct, we cannot guarantee their future career paths," he said.
Prosecutors found to have committed criminal offenses will face not only internal disciplinary action but also legal proceedings, he added.
As an example, Anang cited Eddy Sumarman, head of the Bekasi District Prosecutor's Office, who has been under investigation by the Corruption Eradication Commission since earlier this month.
Eddy was immediately removed from his post while the criminal investigation proceeds, Anang said.
"The Attorney General has appointed a replacement because our principle is clear: whenever there are indications of violations, action must be taken immediately," he said.
Anang added that the Attorney General's Office has also withdrawn several other district prosecutors from their posts due to issues arising in their respective jurisdictions.
"Not only in Bekasi, but there are several heads of district prosecutor offices who have been recalled because of problems in their regions," he said.
