Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – The proposal for granting amnesty by President Prabowo Subianto to several convicts has been approved by the House of Representatives during a consultation meeting on Thursday, July 31, 2025. Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas stated that this amnesty is given to 1,116 convicts from various cases.

Hasto Kristiyanto is one of the convicts who has been pardoned by the head of state. The General Secretary of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) was previously sentenced to 3 years and 6 months in prison for proven bribery of members of the General Elections Commission in the process of replacing interim members of the House of Representatives involving PDIP cadre Harun Masiku.

Amnesty is the cancellation of a punishment by a head of state for individuals or groups who have committed criminal acts.

In addition to Hasto, Supratman detailed that amnesty was also given to convicts involved in non-armed treason cases. Based on records from the ministry, there are six convicts of non-armed treason, all of which occurred in Papua.

Amnesty was also granted to those convicted of defaming the president. This includes pardon for convicts who are elderly, suffer from mental disorders, and are afflicted with illnesses that require intensive treatment outside of detention.

"Indeed, the request came from President Prabowo when I was appointed as Minister of Law," he said, on Thursday, July 31, 2025.

The Gerindra Party politician also stated that approximately 1,668 more people will receive amnesty from the president in the second stage. This was known after the Ministry of Law verified and conducted a public test.

According to him, one of the considerations for granting amnesty to the convicts is for the sake of unity. "For the celebration of August 17th," he said.
