Fachri Hamzah, Jakarta – Another street brawl occurred on Jalan Tambak, South Jakarta, precisely in the Manggarai Tunnel area. The clash between residents broke out last night at around 20:00 local time.

The South Jakarta Police put personnel on alert after the street brawl between residents broke out in the area on Sunday night. Tebet Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Adjunct Commissioner Suwarno said dozens of residents involved in the brawl were suspected of carrying sharp weapons. "Members are already on standby there," said Suwarno when confirmed.

He said conditions in the Manggarai Tunnel area had returned to normal. Residents involved in the brawl had dispersed before the police arrived at the location.

He ensured that traffic flow in the area was back to normal. From monitoring the location, according to him, no residents were victims and no one had been arrested by the police.

Information about the street brawl between residents that occurred in the Manggarai Tunnel circulated on social media through video recordings. From the video, a number of residents were carrying firearms and even fireworks. Due to the brawl, vehicles were temporarily unable to pass through the area.

Police formed an anti-brawl team

The South Jakarta City Government together with the police formed an anti-brawl team to address the increasing conflict between residents in Manggarai. This team is on guard at two monitoring posts near the Manggarai Station tunnel.

The team consists of 10 representatives from 12 RWs under the guidance of the Village Development Officers (Babinsa), the Community Security and Order Development Officers (Bhabinkamtibmas), and the sub-district.

This team was inaugurated by the then Metro Jaya Police Chief, Inspector General Fadil Imran. He explained that this team plays a role in embracing the perpetrators of the brawls that often occur in Manggarai.

"I remind you from the start, we don't want it (the formation of the anti-brawl team) to be ceremonial, we want this to be a grassroots movement that is substantial," he said, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, as quoted by Antara.

Fadil said that these officers will not focus on arresting the perpetrators of the street brawls, but embracing the residents involved to be guided. Polda Metro Jaya, said Fadil, has socialized, provided special methods, and motivated in handling the problem of brawls to the administrators of Neighborhood Associations (RT) and Citizens Associations (RW).
