Oyuk Ivani Siagian, Jakarta – A total of 13,252 joint personnel from the military (TNI) and Indonesian National Police (Polri) have been deployed to safeguard the International Labor Day celebration on Thursday, May 1, 2025. The labor day commemoration today will be centered around the National Monument (Monas) area in Central Jakarta.

The Chief of Jakarta Metro Police Inspector General Karyoto stated that the personnel consist of 9,591 Polri officers, 3,385 TNI members, and 276 personnel from the Jakarta Provincial Government. "The TNI, regional government, and related stakeholders have prepared forces for the security of May Day 2025," stated Karyoto as quoted from an official release on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

The May Day 2025 activities are planned to be divided into two forms, the main event being a public celebration at Monas and a rally to voice workers' aspirations. Karyoto mentioned that around 200,000 people are expected to participate in the public celebration, with reported attendance of President Prabowo Subianto.

Hence, he urged the joint personnel assigned to safeguard the International Labor Day commemoration event to work professionally, humanely, and responsibly. They must ensure that the event runs smoothly, safely, and peacefully.

Karyoto stated that traffic management, early detection of potential disturbances, and communication with the public are the priorities for this security operation. "This is an important moment, and we hope that everything goes safely and peacefully," he said.

The Chief of Jakarta Metro Police predicts dense arrival from various regions outside Jakarta for the May Day event, including Banten and West Java. Therefore, he urges the public to avoid the vicinity of Monas to reduce the potential traffic congestion.

"The event starts at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until evening. We have asked the Traffic Directorate to advise residents to avoid routes to Monas. We apologize, as this is the workers' festive event," he said.

The Chief of Police hopes that the International Labor Day commemoration event will run smoothly without any incidents, so that all participants can return home safely.
