"Remission also reduces overcrowding, leading to an improvement in the services and rehabilitation of inmates," he said in an official statement on Friday, March 28, 2025.

On Nyepi, remission was granted to 1,629 inmates and 12 inmates of Hindu faith. The Minister congratulated all inmates and underage inmates who received remission. "Let this blessing serve as a reminder to control your desires and not to fall into the same mistakes," he said.

The statutory provisions for the granting of remission and reduction of sentences are regulated in Law Number 22 of 2022 on Penitentiary.
