Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stressed that the health of a nation is reflected in the performance of its security forces, the military (TNI) and police (Polri). He noted that the signs of a failing state often manifest themselves through deficiencies in the military and police.

This principle, he said applies not only to Indonesia, but to any nation where the military and police play a central role in providing defense and security.

"The hallmark of a failing state is a military and a police force that fail in their duties," Prabowo said in his speech at the TNI-Polri leadership meeting at Tri Brata Darmawangsa in Jakarta on Thursday, January 30.

The president underscored that the military and police are not only symbols of the state's presence, but also essential guardians of sovereignty who derive their authority from the trust and support of the people.

"It is the people who trust you and give you the power to serve. They are the ones who pay you and provide the means for your welfare and livelihood," he said.

For this reason, Prabowo stressed that it is only natural for the public to expect the security forces to be fully committed to the nation. He urged them to uphold that trust with unwavering commitment and sacrifice.

"The moment you accept this mandate, this power, you are essentially pledging your body and soul to the state and its people," he said.

He also warned military and police personnel against being blinded by their ranks and the power they confer, stressing that titles and positions are a form of respect granted by the people.

"When you accept to wear the rank of general, it means that you must be the first to put your life on the line for the nation and the state," Prabowo declared.
