Novali Panji Nugroho, Jakarta – The Indonesian Armed Forces (TNI) probed several soldiers allegedly involved in the attack on Tarakan Regional Police, said VI/Mulawarman Millitary Commander, Major General Rudy Rachmat Nugraha. The incident took place on Monday evening, February 24, 2025.

The attack involved several members of the Task Force, Infantry Battalion 614/RJP. "At present, the soldiers have been consolidated and probed in accordance with procedures," he said in a written statement on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, quoted from the official Instagram account of @kodam_mlw.

The examination was conducted by the Commander of Infantry Battalion 613/RJA within the parent unit. On the other hand, the TNI and the National Police in the North Kalimantan region have coordinated to maintain the stability of relations between both institutions.

Rudy stated that the TNI is still monitoring the developments following the attack. He urged both institutions to maintain a conducive atmosphere in Tarakan City.

In the same statement, the Head of Information for the VI/Mulawarman Military Command, Colonel Kav Kristiyanto, mentioned that the attack on Tarakan Regional Police headquarters was due to a misunderstanding. According to him, the attack was not intentional.

"Purely a misunderstanding between individuals, not an issue between the institutions," he said.

He said the synergy between the National Police and TNI remained unaffected by the incident, especially in maintaining the security and public order in North Kalimantan. He mentioned that the situation in Tarakan City is currently safe and conducive.

The attack by several TNI members reportedly resulted in five injured police officers. The incident took place at around 11:00 p.m. local time, and caused damages to the tables, glass, and chairs around the Tarakan Regional Police headquarters. The TNI members brought stones, wood, and iron when they launched the attack.

The incident began when TNI members arrived in a green truck at Bank Mandiri on Jalan Yos Sudarso, Tarakan. There were more than 20 TNI members involved in the attack.
