Alif Ilham Fajriadi, Jakarta – An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck East Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at approximately 11:30 Western Indonesia Time (WIB). The tremor resulted in minor damage to 31 houses and two places of worship.

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. However, a total of 31 families were affected due to minor damage to their homes.

Tajudin, Head of the Prevention Division at the East Kolaka Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), stated that the quake caused panic among residents, prompting them to evacuate their homes. The tremors were felt for approximately 2-3 seconds.

"The East Kolaka BPBD is conducting data collection and monitoring efforts following the earthquake. The situation is gradually returning to normal. However, some residents remain cautious and have chosen to stay outside their homes, anticipating potential aftershocks," Tajudin explained in a written statement on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

The East Kolaka earthquake, which originated from within the landmass, posed no tsunami threat. The seismic activity occurred in a series of three tremors with varying magnitudes.

According to data from the East Kolaka BPBD Pusdalops, the earthquake's tremors were felt in seven sub-districts: Mowewe, Dangia, Tirawuta, Lalolae, Tinondo, Polipolia, and Lambandia.
