Irsyan Hasyim, Erwin Prima, Jakarta – The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said flooding damaged several bridges in Batang Regency, Central Java Province. Data from the Central Java BPBD on Tuesday night, January 21, 2025, at 22:49 WIB recorded that six connecting facilities were cut off, while the floods were observed to have receded.

Abdul Muhari, head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, said the flood occurred after heavy and long rains flushed the southern region of Batang Regency on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 17:00 WIB.

Not only was the bridge cut off, five houses were also severely damaged. There were no casualties due to the floods that hit 10 administrative areas at the village or kelurahan level. "After the flood, the Batang Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and related elements will repair the bridge," Muhari said via written message on Wednesday, January 21, 2025.

According to him, as many as two residents were injured and referred to the Limpung Regional Hospital. In comparison, two residents who were reportedly washed away were successfully evacuated and have received medical treatment.

When the flood occurred, 130 families or 500 residents were displaced, while more than 7,000 residents were affected. "The local BPBD is still collecting data on displaced residents," Muhari said.

The affected residents are distributed in 10 villages or kelurahan in 10 sub-districts. The affected sub-districts are Bawang, Reban, Subah, Tersono, Warungasem, Gringsing, Bandar, Blado, Batang and Wonotunggal.

In addition to bridges and houses, BNPB recorded affected facilities in seven houses, one tourist attraction, one hydropower plant and one road.

Meanwhile, in the fourth week of January 2025, some areas in Central Java Province were hit by hydrometeorological disasters such as floods and landslides. Several regencies and cities were affected, including Pekalongan, Kendal, Brebes, Grobogan, Pemalang, Demak, Sragen, Tegal, and Surakarta City.

Extreme weather, including moderate to heavy rain, is still possible in Central Java for the next two days, January 23-24, 2025.

Responding to the potential for extreme weather and disasters in the region, BNPB urges local governments and communities always to be vigilant and ready to prevent, mitigate, and respond to potential disaster impacts.

Residents and local governments can initiate collaborative efforts, such as cleaning drainage, checking embankments, or activating family preparedness plans.

BNPB monitors the handling situation and coordinates with BPBDs in the Central Java region. BNPB's head, Suharyanto, is scheduled to depart for Central Java on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.
