Antara, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo instructed the Indonesian Military (TNI) to uphold national security and remain neutral ahead of two significant events: the inauguration of President-elect Prabowo Subianto on Oct. 20 and the 2024 regional elections on Nov. 27.
During the 79th TNI Anniversary ceremony at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Saturday, Jokowi said, "Support the government transition and ensure the process runs smoothly. Fully back the regional elections, maintain neutrality, and keep the situation stable."
Prabowo, alongside his running mate, Jokowi's eldest son Gibran Rakabuming Raka, won the presidential election with 58.59 percent of the vote and will be sworn in on Oct. 20.
The regional elections on Nov. 27 will see over 200 million voters elect governors, regents, and mayors across 38 provinces, 416 regencies, and 98 cities nationwide.
Jokowi emphasized the TNI's critical role in ensuring the smooth and secure execution of these processes, urging heightened vigilance against any threats to national stability.
"Do not allow any disruptions that could compromise state security," he stressed.
