Amelia Rahima Sari, Jakarta – The National Cyber and Encryption Agency (BSSN) official Nur Achmadi Salmawan reported that the agency recorded 361 million traffic anomalies or cyber attacks in Indonesia from January 1 to October 26, 2023.

"From the beginning of January to October 26 this year, about 361 million traffic anomalies occurred, which could be said to be cyber attacks on Indonesia," said Salmawan, the expert staff of the agency's cybersecurity management policy unit, during a virtual discussion held by Aftech Media Clinic on Thursday, November 16, 2023.

According to him, the data was obtained from the National Security Operations Center or NSOC. He explained that the majority of the traffic anomalies are malware activity at 42.79 percent, followed by Trojan activity at 35.40 percent and information leakage at 9.35 percent.

"For cyber attacks on the financial sector, malware and Trojan activity are still the biggest," Salmawan added.

He explained that the peak of traffic anomalies occurred in August, while for the financial sector alone, they occurred in July.

"The future trend will still be the same, which is threats in the form of ransomware and also advanced persistent threats or APT," Salmawan confirmed.

He also said there were potential losses from cyber attacks, including loss of reputation, loss of finances, stolen intellectual property rights, and decreased public trust.

According to data from Microsoft, Frost & Sullivan (2018), the United States incurred US$34.2 billion in losses due to cyber attacks in 2018. Meanwhile, BSSN data showed Indonesia's losses reached Rp14.5 trillion in 2022.

"This was based on the report because many cyber attacks and cyber incidents were not reported to us," Salmawan said.
