Septia Ryanthie, Solo – Solo Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) stated that the number of people affected by the flooding that hit the region on Thursday, February 16, 2023, had reached 21,846 people as of 09:17 western Indonesian Time on Friday, February 17, 2023.

At least 15 sub-districts in four districts were flooded, namely Jebres, Pasarkliwon, Serengan, and Laweyan. Some of the affected residents were evacuated to a number of evacuation posts in each sub-district. But some chose to stay on village roads.

Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated that the flooding, which was quite severe, was caused by the high intensity of rain in the city and its surrounding areas from Thursday afternoon. In addition, the water pump at the Demangan sluice gate could not function optimally and the sluice gate of the Gajah Mungkur Reservoir (WGM) Wonogiri was opened.

"Yesterday afternoon, we coordinated with BBWS [Bengawan Solo River Basin]. We have made sure again that all the pumps were working," Gibran said.

Gibran claimed that the city administration had filed a complaint to BBWS. "But it will be followed up soon. The water overflow from Wonogiri should have been coordinated first, but it's okay, we will anticipate it again. It should have started to recede," Gibran said.

Gibran confirmed that several schools and the sub-district offices were also used as evacuation posts. "But what is clear is residents can stay in the places we have provided."

According to information compiled by Tempo as of Friday, February 17, 2023, there were still a number of areas whose floods have not receded yet, such as in Joyotakan sub-district.

Gibran confirmed that he had provided basic supplies for residents staying the evacuation posts. "In the refugee camps, food, medicine, and clean water are all available. Hopefully this afternoon it will recede," Gibran said.
