M Faiz Zaki, Jakarta – The Metro Jaya Police on Wednesday officially named police commissioner Yulius Bambang Karyanto as a suspect in a drug abuse inquiry. Metro Jaya spokesperson Endra Zulpan said other suspects allegedly involved in the case are civilians.
"Yulius Bambang Karyanto, Novi Prihartini or Revi, Dedi Rusmana or Bacing, and Erry Wahyudi or Bode or Bodonk were named as suspects," said Zulpan in a statement on January 11.
Two other civilians who were arrested will be drafted into a rehabilitation program and will hone their status as witnesses.
Suspects, including the police commissioner, will be charged under Law No. 35/2009 on narcotics.
Police raided commissioner Yulius at a hotel room located in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on January 7, along with a female partner. During the arrest, police confiscated two small plastic bags containing 0.5 grams and 0.6 grams of methamphetamine.
The police institution assured that this case is unrelated to another case involving police inspector general Teddy Minahasa Putra, who allegedly ordered subordinates to circulate narcotics from West Sumatra.
