Booster jab required for long-distance train travelers starting August 30

Riani Sanusi Putri, Jakarta – Passengers of long-distance trains aged 18 years and above are required to get a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or booster shot starting Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Passengers aged 6 to 17 years, meanwhile, are only required to have a second dose.

"This policy applies to long-distance train departures starting August 30, 2022," said the state-owned railway operator KAI of regional operation (Daop) 8 Surabaya spokesman, Luqman Arif, in a written statement on Monday, August 29.

Luqman explained that the regulation was adjusted to the Transportation Ministry's Circular No. 84 of 2022 on the guidelines for domestic travel by rail transportation during the COVID-19 Pandemic dated August 26, 2022.

In the previous policy, passengers who have not received a booster jab are still allowed to board the train by presenting a negative result of an RT-PCR test.

The following are the complete travel requirements using long-distance trains which is valid starting tomorrow:

For passengers aged 18 and above:

a) Must get a third-dose vaccine or booster.
b) Foreigners from overseas travel must present a second vaccination certificate.
c) Those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons must show a doctor's certificate from a government hospital.

For passengers aged 6-17 years:

a) Must have received a second jab.
b) Vaccine is not required for those from overseas travel
c) Those who cannot be vaccinated due to medical reasons must show a doctor's certificate from a government hospital.

Long-distance train passengers under the age of six years are not required to be vaccinated and are not required to show a negative result of the Rapid Antigen Test or RT-PCR but must be accompanied by a companion who meets travel requirements.
