Antara, Jakarta – Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that President Prabowo Subianto has directed the design of an educational model that supports the rehabilitation of drug addicts, including young people.

"What we conveyed earlier certainly concerns the formulation of educational and rehabilitation concepts that can truly produce young people who recover and can even go on to become productive," said Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto following a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, as quoted by ANTARA.

He said the ministry would discuss appropriate concepts and methods with higher education institutions, particularly with academics from the faculties of medicine and psychology, who have been deeply involved in drug addiction rehabilitation efforts.

Highlighting the experiences shared by researchers, hospital representatives, and university delegates, the rehabilitation process for overcoming drug dependence now frequently incorporates technology and educational models developed by various higher education institutions.

"We will use everything – formulating the best practices developed by universities and higher education institutions – to ensure that the rehabilitation process for drug users, especially adolescents and young people, effectively resolves their issues," Brian explained.

During today's limited cabinet meeting, the President also discussed similar practices implemented by various universities abroad. This discussion took place against the backdrop of continued access to these illicit substances – which target Indonesia's younger generation – on the ground.

Today's meeting also addressed using university research findings to support efforts to tackle the drug problem. He said universities' research findings would align with the needs of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) and the Ministry of Health, including therapeutic purposes.

In addition to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, the President also summoned several ministers and heads of agencies regarding the issue, including BNN Head Suyudi Ario Seto, the Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Arif Satria, the Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, and the Deputy Minister of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono.
