Indonesia logs 6,527 new Covid-19 cases, 43% from Jakarta

Antara, Jakarta – Indonesia recorded 6,527 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours as of Thursday noon, August 4. According to the Health Ministry's data, Jakarta was the province reporting the most daily infections with 43.11% or 2,814 cases.

West Java followed with the addition of 1,436 cases, and then Banten with 861 cases. At the same time, Jakarta also reported the most recoveries per day with 4,000 cases, followed by Banten with 725, and West Java with 722 recoveries.

Meanwhile, East Java reported the most deaths with three cases, followed by Jakarta, Bali, South Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan, each with two deaths.

Previously, the Covid-19 Task Force spokesman, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the weekly positive cases of Covid-19 in Indonesia had increased by 15 times over the last two months.

"The weekly positive cases this week were recorded at more than 38,000, very high compared to the beginning of June 2022 which was only 2,000 cases," Wiku Adisasmito said in a press statement.

In the last week, there were 91 deaths related to Covid-19, a sharp increase compared to the previous week's 40 deaths. In recent days, the number of deaths from Covid-19 had averaged more than 20 per day.
