Pribadi Wicaksono, Jakarta – The Yogyakarta government in tandem with the regional police mobilized a neighborhood watch program dubbed 'Jaga Warga' following rising cases of street gang violence perpetrated by teenagers known as klitih that recently killed one person this week.

Jaga Warga consists of civilians, including village or neighborhood units officials, under the coordination of the regional Public Order Agency (Satpol PP). There are 1,831 groups with 25 civilians in each group.

"I have instructed all Jaga Warga groups to start launching the security activities beginning today. There are a total of 1,831 groups in Yogyakarta," said Yogyakarta Satpol PP Head Noviar Rahmad in Yogyakarta, Wednesday, April 6.

A senior high school student Daffa Adzin Albasith died due to the street crime earlier this week. He was attacked at dawn by a group of teenagers riding motorbikes in the Jalan Gedongkuning area early Monday, April 4. To date, the police have not yet managed to arrest any suspects.

"We ask Jaga Warga to monitor and anticipate all street crimes in their respective areas, including the potential for klitih," said Noviar.
