Yudha Baskoro, Sukoharjo – Agus Widanarko wears not a surgical but superhero mask in the pandemic. By trade an anti-drug counsellor, he moonlights as Super Isoman to cheer up children who self-isolate due to Covid-19 in Sukoharjo, Central Java.
"Self-isolation for 14 days at home is definitely boring. Even adults are bored. How about the children?" said Agus, 40, a passionate advocate for children's welfare.
Danar, as he likes to be called, initially toured around Sukoharjo to educate young kids about Covid -19 and relevant health protocols.
However, after Covid-19 cases increased in various cities across Central Java, including Sukoharjo, Danar devoted himself to entertaining children. Now, his new mission is to make children happy.
After receiving daily reports through social media, Danar immediately visits the homes of people in need, wearing superhero costumes such as Spiderman, Batman, and Power Rangers. Locals call Danar 'Super Isoman'.
"I don't want children who are undergoing self-isolation to have traumatic memories," said Danar.
He once heard about a child who was forbidden to sleep in the same room as his mother due to Covid-19. These conditions are traumatic for children and leave bad childhood memories.
Bringing balloons, fairytale books and children's favorite snacks, Danar will usually arrive at the front of the house and entertain the children.
Parents indebted to Danar's generosity and dedication will reciprocate by rewarding him with more toys and playful supplies to pass on to other children.
"I will use this gift to help other children in need. I hope this positive spirit spreads and continues to boost every child body's immunity", said Danar.
