Lani Diana Wijaya, Jakarta – The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) spoke up following the leaked video of singer Gisella Anastasia or Gisel with Michael YD that caused a public uproar that ended in police naming the singer as a suspect.

The women's rights watchdog produced a number of recommendations for the police, House of Representatives (DPR), mass media, and the general public.

Komnas Perempuan commissioner Siti Aminah Tardi in Wednesday's written statement called for police to focus on the person responsible for spreading the private video and urged for the case against Gisel and Michael to be dropped.

"To stop the investigation on the parties that were harmed by the spread of intimate content," wrote the commissioner.

They also urge DPR to revise Law No. 44/2008 on pornography as they argue the law had been troublesome since its inception and call for victims to not be criminalized. Siti Aminah also calls for people to stop spreading the video online.

Komnas Perempuan also encourages mass media to avert from gender bias in reporting about the singer, especially if the only reason is to increase website traffic through the use of the singer's name as a keyword.

Both Gisel and Michael YD had been named suspects by the Metro Jaya Police that found them guilty under the Law on Pornography and ITE Law.
