Fajar Pebrianto, Jakarta – Dozens of labor unions and confederations in Monday's press release declared that they have agreed to conduct a nationwide strike to reject the government's plan to pass the job creation omnibus draft bill (RUU omnibus law) at the House of Representatives (DPR).

The nationwide strike is planned to be held peacefully for three-days straight starting on October 6 up to October 8, 2020. The latter is the scheduled date the DPR plenary meeting will discuss the omnibus bill.

Roughly 5,000 workers from thousands of corporations across 25 provinces and 300 regencies will participate in this mass-protest. These workers come from industries such as chemical, energy, mining, logistics, and banking.

"The production process during the national strike will be halted," said the president of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI), Said Iqbal, on Monday, September 28.

The workers plan to stop production and gather in an undisclosed location to conduct the strike and assert that the nationwide movement is protected under Law No.9/1998 on the legality of conducting demonstrations and Law No.13/2003 on employment.

"Participants will abide by the procedures mentioned in the two Laws," said the KSPI leader.
