Ahmad Faiz, Jakarta – The declaration of the action to save Indonesia coalition or Koalisi Aksi Menyelamatkan Indonesia (KAMI) committee chair, Ahmad Yani, announced that committee members will take responsibility if the declaration – attended by hundreds of people packed in a narrow space – turns into a COVID-19 infectious cluster.

"We have done our maximum if there are violations we have done then we are ready to be summoned," said Ahmad Yani at the declaration event on Tuesday, August 18.

He is also aware that this event could be turned by opposers into something that can be used against them, especially the fact that many in the group failed to wear face masks and maintained a distance between each other.

"Today, buzzers will certainly bully us for not wearing face masks, not keeping physical distances, and not abiding by the COVID-19 protocol. That would not be a problem for us, we don't have time to respond to trivial issues such as that," the KAMI committee chairman and former House of legislation member asserted.

According to Tempo's field observation, KAMI committee members did in fact provide face masks, controlled physical distances between people, and sprayed disinfectants to those attending the event. The speaker of the declaration had also constantly reminded about abiding by COVID-19 protocols. However, many were seen removing or pulling down their masks and sitting closely beside each other.
