Chairul Fikri, Jakarta – The Tangerang district government has closed a makeshift quarantine facility for Covid-19 patients as cases have been declining over the past weeks, in a sharp contrast to neighboring Jakarta that saw a resurgence in infections.
Built for athletes' village during a local sporting event last year, the facility in Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, has 100 rooms intended for patients with mild symptoms of the novel coronavirus.
"The Anabatic Quarantine Facility for Covid-19 patients is formally closed and on behalf of the Tangerang government and the people I would like to say how thankful we are to all the medical workers and volunteers for their works at this facility," Tangerang District Head Zaki Iskandar said on sunday.
He said the facility housed mostly asymptomatic patients who didn't require hospital treatment.
"Hopefully the declining number of new Covid-19 cases will continue, although we have been prepared for unexpected developments or even for the worse," he said.
"From now on, the handling of the Covid-19 outbreak in this district is centered at three main hospitals, namely the Tangerang Municipal Hospital, the Balaraja Hospital and the Siloam Kelapa Dua Hospital.".
Since it received patients on April 20, the facility has treated a total of 234 patients, with only four of them developing serious symptoms and being transferred to hospitals.
The district has reported 307 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, but the number of active cases has been reduced significantly to just 31.
Together with Tangerang City and South Tangerang City, the district forms Greater Tangerang as the most densely-populated and richest area in Banten province, just southwest of Jakarta.
Greater Tangerang has more than 1,300 Covid-19 cases overall, an overwhelming majority of the province's 1,484 cases.
