Imam Hamdi, Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on Thursday announced that the COVID-19 rate in the capital city has started to drop within the last two days. This dropping trend has reached 3.8 percent from the previous 5 percent for a period of one month.

"This means that the condition in Jakarta is under control. But this is yet to be over, the challenges remain high. In the future, we need to be more disciplined," said Anies in a virtual discussion on Thursday evening, June 25, involving 51 Mosques and Jakarta ulema.

Despite the dropping positive rate, the governor said that the pandemic is yet to be over and that Jakarta has yet met the requirement of the World Health Organization (WHO) of 10 percent positive cases in a region in order to do a transition to the new normal.

During the virtual meeting, Anies Baswedan urged Jakartans to view the pandemic as a test rather than a punishment. The governor called for people to stay put at home and use the time to be spent with family members at home and see the silver lining caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
