Telly Nathalia, Jakarta – President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo said on Wednesday he expected the government to complete three much-anticipated omnibus bills by next week.

"I have asked for a final draft of the bills this week," the president said in Jakarta after a meeting to discuss the omnibus bills for job creation and taxation.

Jokowi had said he wanted to complete all the omnibus bills within the first 100 days of his second term in office.

The president said the government would consult experts, stakeholders and the public on the bills at the same time as they are being deliberated at the House of Representatives.

Jokowi has made simplifying labyrinthine regulations the main priority of his current government.

The government plans to submit three omnibus bills to the House next week, one on job creation, one on taxation and another one on micro, small and medium enterprises.

On a separate occasion on Wednesday, Jokowi said land disputes and overlapping regulations remain the biggest obstacles for the government in attracting new investors.

Once they are approved by the House, the new omnibus laws should solve the issue of overlapping regulations, according to the president. The omnibus bills to be submitted next week would revise simultaneously a total of 74 laws.

"Passing these bills will be a huge milestone for the House and the government, and make sure we do the best for the people of Indonesia and help our economy grow," Jokowi said at an Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI) meeting in Jakarta.
