'The Jakarta Post' journalist wins Adam Malik Award

Tama Salim, Jakarta – The Jakarta Post foreign affairs journalist Dian Septiari was conferred the Foreign Ministry's prestigious 2020 Adam Malik Award for Best Print Journalist, a second win in as many years for the Jakarta news outlet.

Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi presented Dian and five other winning journalists with the Adam Malik Award on Wednesday, before the minister's annual foreign policy speech in Jakarta.

In 2019, then-Post journalist Agnes Anya won the same award, underscoring the media company's solid coverage of global affairs.

Established on Jan. 16, 2002, the ministry has given out the award to recognize the important role of the media in disseminating the nation's foreign policy accurately, objectively and informatively.

Born in 1917, Adam Malik started his career as a journalist, having established Antara news agency. He was also foreign minister in 1966-1978 and vice president in 1978-1983.

Other Adam Malik Award winners include: Republika daily for Best Newspaper, Kompas TV for Best TV Station, public broadcaster RRI Pro 3 for Best Radio Station, Antaranews.com for Best Online News, and Tribunnews.com reporter Rina Ayu Panca Rini for Best Online Journalist.

The ministry also held its first ever Social Media Awards 2020, which recognizes the hard work of Indonesian missions and diplomats abroad. The Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi was conferred the award for the most active mission, the Consulate General in Chicago, Illinois was named the most engaging mission, while the Consulate General in Hong Kong was recognized as having found the best use of visual media for its public diplomacy.

Meanwhile, former Indonesian Ambassador to Canada Abdul Kadir Djaelani was awarded Digital Head of Mission.
