Halida Bunga, Jakarta – National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) opined that the challenge faced by Education and Culture Minister Nadiem Makarim is on how to solve issues on radicalism.
The commissioner Choirul Anam said several schools are still overlooking discrimination against certain identity which leads to students being close-minded when facing diversity.
"So do not only providing rooms for teachers to be creative. That's vital. But as President Jokowi says, we are facing waves of radicalism, which is the job of the minister. Ministry of Education and Culture is more important to settle it, rather than Religious Affairs Ministry. Far more important," Anam told Tempo, Thursday, November 28.
According to Anam, innovative education must help to foster a sense of tolerance as a part of Indonesian cultures. Therefore, radicalism will automatically be reduced.
"It is useless to issue a joint ministerial decree (SKB) on state apparatus. School is the core of the future. So it is the job of the Ministry of Education and Culture, neither the police's nor Ministry of Religious Affairs'," Anam remarked.
