Dewi Nurita, Jakarta – Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Wiranto, demanded Papuans immediately stop the mass demonstrations staged in all areas of the province.
"The problems cannot be solved through demonstrations and anarchism. A solution can be achieved if we have a dialogue, cool down," said the former commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI) at his office, Jakarta, Friday, August 30.
This afternoon, Wiranto held a meeting with several Papuan figures, namely Vice Adm. (ret) Freddy Numberi, Yorrys Raweyai, Frans Ansan, Samuel Tabuni, Alfred Papare, and Victor Abraham Abaidata.
He said the session was not aimed at blaming anyone, but rather seeking solutions to the public unrest in Papua.
However, he stopped short of revealing the ultimate solution that the government would resort to and demanded the public believe in them in handling the issue.
"I cannot explain it clearly. Just pray. What's important is, [we will not take] repressive measures, but rather compromise and dialogue," Wiranto underlined.
