Antara & Christian Lee, Jakarta – Losing vice presidential candidate Sandiaga Uno spoke out on the arrest of several members of his campaign team during the election season.

"We want the law to be enforced as fairly as possible, especially in the holy month of Ramadan and now that we are approaching Eid al-Fitr," Sandiaga said at an event dubbed "Hijrah Festival 2019" in Senayan, South Jakarta, on Sunday.

The businessman-turned-politician said that the members of his campaign team currently facing legal problems were merely voicing for change and therefore should not be dealt with the full force of the law.

"What is clear is that we want the law to be enforced fairly and indiscriminately, not just to attack the opposition," Sandiaga said.

Two members from his camp, spokesman Lieus Sungkharisma and National Mandate Party (PAN) politician Eggi Sudjana, were arrested and charged with treason.

Campaign team advisor Amien Rais, who was also reported for treason, was questioned by the Jakarta Police last Friday as a witness in the treason case against Eggi.

Former chief of staff of the Army's Strategic Command (Kostrad) Kivlan Zen was also questioned by the police for alleged treason and spreading fake news.

Mustofa Nahrawardaya, a legislative candidate from PAN and coordinator for information technology volunteers for the Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno campaign team, was arrested by police at 3 a.m. on Sunday for deliberately spreading false news about the death of a teenager during the May 21-22 riots in Jakarta.

On Friday, Mustofa shared a video of an injured man on a stretcher and wrote on his caption that a 15-year-old named Harun had died during the riots, suggesting that the police had beaten a teenager to death.
